The low frequency telecommunications spectrum is extremely crowded. To fulfill the expected data-rates for 6G, we must shift our communications to higher frequencies. Microwave active components are very inefficient at these new frequencies. They are the bottle neck for increasing the bandwidth of 6G.
In addition, present antenna solutions are also inefficient and not adapted to the particularities of these new frequencies.
In SEE-6GIA, we propose investigating new antenna solutions (based on quasi-optical systems) to reduce the number of active components. This will facilitate the transition to a new generation of hardware which is energy efficient and sustainable for 6G.
