The fast development of AI calls for knowledge about how our language is used and how it develops when we interact with AI tools through prompting.
This workshop aims to develop methods to understand the interaction between humans and AI in educational contexts.Human learning builds on our interaction with the world surrounding us, including embodied experiences and physical artefacts. Learning our first language builds on these experiences.
In contrast, AI learns language through large text corpora and lacks the embodied connection to the world. The workshop adopts an ecological perspective on cognition, which views cognition as distributed over social groups and coordinated between internal and external structures.
Affordance is a central concept that describes the different action possibilities that can be perceived in resources such as technical artefacts and linguistic expressions. The workshop will address the following questions: How can language be understood in the interaction between humans and AI, and what theoretical components can explain this interaction?
What methods can be used to investigate the interaction between humans and AI in educational contexts? The workshop series will last for two years and involve collaboration within the project group as well as input from various experts and stakeholders.
The workshop activities include a literature review, exploration of methods, validation of the framework, writing articles and a research proposal.
