What will be done? The project aims to advance whole-heart MRI tissue characterization by developing a new imaging method using magnetic resonance fingerprinting (MRF), optimizing the sequence design, creating a novel sampling strategy, enabling on-the-scanner reconstruction, and validating the technique in heart disease patients. How will it be done?Leveraging a reinforcement learning framework, we will optimize the MRF sequence design for effective whole-heart tissue characterization.
A novel MRF sampling strategy ensures comprehensive heart coverage. On-the-scanner reconstruction leveraging neural networks enables rapid processing.
Clinical validation will be conducted in a patient cohort, confirming the method´s effectiveness and real-world applicability. Why is this important? This project has the potential to significantly enhance the diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases by delivering more accurate whole-heart tissue characterization and expediting image acquisition and reconstruction. Why us?The PI, an emerging expert in cardiac MRI who recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship mentored by leading MRF experts, now aims to establish this pioneering line of research in Sweden.
With access to advanced MRI scanners and large patient populations, the applicant is well-positioned for successful project completion.
This combination of factors, including the support from international experts, ensures feasibility and the potential for significant impact in the field.
