The overall purpose of the researchnetwork EduWell is to explore, explain, compare and develop school health education in Sweden, Finland, Norway and Iceland. Young people´s mental health is a major societal challenge in our time.
The school has a central role in young people´s lives and is an important place for their health,well-being and learning.
The school´s main mission is to ensure that students acquire and develop the knowledge necessary for their personal and societal development.
School health education is included in this mission but the concept of mental health, the factors that influence mental health and strategies to promote one´s own wellbeing should also be included.
Physical and sexual health has been apart of health education a long time but mental health and wellbeing is still missing. Learning about mental health(health literacy)has been a demand by young people for a long time. Increased knowledge and understanding of mental health is of central importance for students´ health and wellbeing.
Good examples of different aspects of health education can be found in Sweden, Finland, Norway and Iceland.
The intention is to, through an international research network, EduWell, create a collective knowledge base with interdisciplinary research about school health education.
