An experimental approach to data driven process for international research & innovation cooperation

Purpose and goal:

The overall goal of this study is a methodological experimentation around data-driven environmental monitoring. We are searching solutions for a time- and cost-effective tool for monitoring and data analysis to support the international cooperation activities of Swedish research and innovation financiers. The project also includes exploration of new methods for measurements and new formats for deliverables that are easily accessible both at the policy level and at the operational level.

Expected results and effects:

The project will identify cost-effective, accessible data sources for monitoring critical raw materials in the context of climate transition research, innovation, and policy at EU and global levels. It will develop systematic methods for updating data and building a knowledge base to support international cooperation. Using selected metrics, it will analyze trends and predict emerging ones. Cross-country comparisons will highlight Sweden’s comparative advantages and cooperation opportunities.

Approach and implementation:

IVL has already today experience with projects where we tested methods for data-driven and manual compilation of the state of knowledge in an area, trends and "gap analysis" - where Sweden is in an area, whether we are in a leading position and which areas we are active in. In the current project, we will build on the methods from previous project and explore new ways to attack the challenges.
