The Nordic Network on Research in Innovative Learning Environments (NNILE) comprises four research groups from four key institutions: Umeå University, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Tampere University, and University of Århus.
This collaborative network focuses on educational innovation, specifically exploring new school designs known as Innovative Learning Environments (ILEs).
The primary goal is to create an interdisciplinary platform for Nordic educational researchers to engage in discussions about ILE research across the Nordic countries.Through this network, researchers aim to:Foster connections and mutual support.Develop a deeper understanding of the policies, pedagogical rationales, and conditions underlying current ILEs.Explore students’ and teachers’ experiences within these environments.Facilitate exchanges related to theoretical, methodological, and empirical work. The idea for this network emerged during meetings at various conferences (such as RCEN and ECER), where researchers identified a shared interest in the educational changes related to ILEs occurring in the Nordic region.
However, formal organization within the Nordic ILE research community is essential to efficiently collaborate on activities such as organizing symposia, seminars, editorial work, and scientific publications.
