Purpose and goal:
The project aims to develop a bioengineered bacterial strain for producing medium-chain-length polyhydroxyalkanoates (MCL PHAs) from waste source. Targeting industrial scale-up, the goal is to replace single-use plastics in high-value applications, promoting a circular economy and reducing reliance on fossil-based plastics. This will be done by first building a partnership of Swedish and Singaporean institutes and industrial partners and exploring its feasibility.
Expected results and effects:
The project aims to establish a robust network between Swedish and Singaporean institutions and industrial partners. This network will facilitate knowledge exchange and collaborative development of bioengineered processes for sustainable biopolymer production. Expected results include strengthened international ties and enhanced technological expertise across borders, leading to a collaborative platform for scaling up environmentally friendly technologies.
Approach and implementation:
The initial phase will focus on assessing the feasibility of the project through detailed evaluations of technical, economic, and environmental aspects, alongside building a strong network of partnerships. Networking events and joint workshops will facilitate knowledge exchange and strengthen ties between Swedish and Singaporean partners. Feasibility studies will identify challenges and opportunities, ensuring scalability and viability to proceed to Stage 2 for full-scale implementation.
