Purpose and goal:
The purpose of the project is to fill the knowledge gap existing in the LPT to OGV interface area for designing a future shorter turbofan engine in collaboration with the international partner Pratt and Whitney. The objective is to measure static pressure in LPT-OGV interface, analyse interactions of LPT disk cavity with OGV, collect heat transfer measurements in LE of OGV, enable novel heat transfer transient measurement and validate the latter against traditional technique.
Expected results and effects:
The results expected are expected to fill the current knowledge gap w.r.t. to flow behaviour and heat transfer physics in the interface volume between LPT and OGV. The heat transfer measurements with different and innovative techniques in hub endwall and OGV LE area together with the static pressure measurements between LPT and OGV are going to fill the gap existing regarding flow behaviour and to allow for a more aggressive and efficient design of next-gen aero engine.
Approach and implementation:
The project started November 4th and are going to be measured: 1) static pressure in LPT-OGV interface, 2) analyse interactions of LPT disk cavity with OGV, 3) collect heat transfer measurements in LE of OGV, 4) enable novel heat transfer transient measurement and 5) validate the latter against traditional technique. These measurements will be possible with updates at the LPT-OGV rig for allowing accessibility of the instrumentation to the required areas.
