Purpose and goal:
DAM-CRACK assess to use advanced techniques to expand the knowledge of transient physics of cracking during solidification of L-DED. The main goals within DAM-CRACK are to: • Improve the understanding of fundamentals of cracking in Ni-based alloys • Perform in-situ experiments to gather information that indicates cracking causes in AM
• Provide sufficient inputs to mitigate cracking during L-DED process within the technology development at GKN Aerospace, Sweden Expected results and effects: Results in DAM-CRACK will allow: • To establish methods for future development, enabling the technology development in AM at GKN Aerospace
• To gain suficient knowledge to provide a panoramic view of the alloy performance and its relationship to ductility changes to understand cracking during L-DED process
• Future implementation in of developed Ni-based alloys for other aircraft components for commercial and military applications • The development of strategies for L-DED process optimization Approach and implementation:
A multidisciplinary approach in this project includes in situ high-temperature deformation with X-ray diffraction. Both to be recorded in real-time, and post-processing of data.
Diverse competences, skills and facilities for implementation of results are required for the evaluation of industrial implementation: • Cracking causes in relation to process • Inputs for process optimization of L-DED of Ni-based in aerospace • Develop strategies to mitigate cracking for crack-free components
