National Center for Sustainable Remanufacturing and Repair in Aerospace

Purpose and goal: CeSRA project proposes a national initiative to develop innovative remanufacturing and repair technologies that address sustainability and resource efficiency challenges in the maintenance, repair and overhaul sector of aerospace industry. The project´s hypothesis is that advanced materials, additive manufacturing and repair

techniques can reduce waste, lower cost and extend life of critical aviation components, contributing to reduced emissions, resource efficiency, and improved fuel efficiency Expected results and effects:

Firstly, the project is expected to achieve a significant reduction in waste and resource consumption by developing efficient remanufacturing processes, directly contributing to global climate goals. Secondly, the creation of new technologies and processes will unlock new business opportunities and enhance the global competitiveness of Swedish aviation industry. Additionally, the project will serve as a benchmark for future international collaborations in sustainable production.

Approach and implementation:

The project is structured into multiple work packages, each targeting specific areas (remanufacturing development, technology implementation, and partnerships). HV will oversee research and development in materials science and manufacturing processes, while Innovatum will lead innovation management and business development. GKN will contribute by development of innovative manufacturing solutions. A steering committee (GKN, HV, Innovatum, and international partners) will monitor project progress.
