Collaboration with international partner on GNSS-free drone navigation

Purpose and goal:

Jamming of GPS and other GNSS signals is a large global problem for drone navigation. I-CONIC is developing a unique, cheap and robust software solution that replaces the GNSS signal with a position determination from the drone´s video stream. In this project we plan, with the help of an international actor, to thoroughly analyze the

the operational prerequisites for the software solution and then update and improve the software ahead of an upcoming market introduction. Expected results and effects:

The expected result of the project is a developed methodology for how I-Conics´s solution is to be implemented and used for GNSS-free navigation of drones. Through collaboration with Xer Technologies AG, who is an external demander, dialogue partner and potential future customer, a prototype for implementing the solution can be made.

In the future, the implementation of I-Conics software can either be done by the drone manufacturer or by the manufacturer of the control system. Approach and implementation: The following work packages have been designed for implementation:

Test Planning: In collaboration with Xer gather information on operational challenges and constraints and create a detailed plan for test flight, tests and evaluation. Tests and evaluation: Order appropriate test flights from the appropriate drone service company. Collect the test data and run tests according to the test plan. Compile evaluation results.

Development: Update and refine software based on test results.
