Purpose and goal:
The project "PROSPECT" aims to evaluate the potential of the newly developed alloy TiVSnAlZrMo (ATI23) for additive manufacturing (AM) of large-scale components intended for aerospace applications. The main objective of the project is to increase the understanding of the influence of hot isostatic pressing (HIP) and heat treatment on the microstructure of LPBF-produced ATI23 and the resulting mechanical (tensile and fatigue strength) and thermal (oxidation resistance) properties.
Expected results and effects:
The project will result in new competence regarding additive manufacturing of ATI23 components, improved manufacturing capacity, and conditions for creating a competitive advantage for participating small and medium-sized companies. The primary users are aerospace manufacturers, particularly those involved in producing lightweight, high-strength components, such as GKN Aerospace, which is investigating the potential of ATI23 for applications such as gas turbine engines.
Approach and implementation:
Project PROSPECT includes nine work packages (WP): project management, Fabrication of TiVSnAlZrMo (ATI23) AM-sample, HIPing, Heat treatment, Microstructural characterization, Thermal characterization, Mechanical testing (hardness and tensile testing), Air oxidation studies, and low-cycle fatigue testing on optimized ATI23 AM-samples. All project partners are involved in all WP through various sub-tasks and communication activities.
