Purpose and goal:
This project aims to address the challenges caused by the separation of material production and material use in industry and academia, in the fields of Materials Science and Mechanical Engineering. A Ph.D.-level curriculum will be developed tailored to industry needs, preparing engineers for today’s integrated industries.
Expected results and effects:
Key project goals include formalizing cross-disciplinary knowledge into educational materials, creating a PhD course and integrating it into KTH’s curriculum. The feasibility study will define industry requirements, set learning goals, and develop a course that bridges material design and use. The project will also create a platform for dialogue between educators and industry to ensure relevance, while leveraging the expertise of Materials Science and Mechanical Engineering departments.
Approach and implementation:
Deliverables include a report on the educational needs of industry partners, a survey on the experiences of current Ph.D. students and industry partners, a detailed course plan, and a roadmap for future educational development.
