Grant Description

The "Get your shit together" project is part of the equine sector´s efforts to combat eutrophication, aiming to raise awareness about the environmental impact of horses and reduce nutrient leakage from horse farms.

Following the Swedish Government Official Report on Eutrophication (SOU 2020:10), new communication approaches were identified to reach more horse owners, especially those not affiliated with industry organizations or lacking access to advisory services.

By exploring motivation factors, barriers, and gathering information on a shared digital platform, the project promotes concrete measures to reduce nutrient leakage.

Communication efforts are carried out via social media, cross-organizational collaborations, as well as through educations and workshops.

By engaging equine organizations in knowledge sharing and support, the project inspires horse owners to improve manure management and reduce nutrient load.

Expected outcomes include increased knowledge, more concrete environmental actions reducing nutrient leakage, and reduced environmental impact, ultimately contributing to improved water quality in Sweden.

Success will be measured by advisory sessions, participation in educational activities, and information reach, forming a basis for further research and long-term sustainable strategies in the equine sector.
