This project aims to communicate and raise awareness of the critical importance of preserving genetic diversity in domesticated animals. Loss of genetic variation threatens the resilience of agricultural systems, food security, and animal health.
Drawing from extensive research in conservation genetics, the project will target breeders, animal organizations, and government agencies in Sweden.
These groups were selected because they are the primary actors responsible for implementing breeding practices and shaping relevant policies.
With this focus we ensure the research reaches those with the greatest influence on domestic animal breeding and conservation decisions.
The communication activities - including AI-generated scientific-briefs, infographics, videos, and podcasts - will be delivered through channels tailored to these audiences for maximum reach and engagement.
These formats are chosen to simplify complex scientific information, making it accessible and engaging for both experts and practitioners. Collaborating with platforms like Animal.OOO enables direct access to active members within the breeding community.
The expected outcome is enhanced awareness and practical adoption of conservation strategies, contributing to global sustainability goals, including SDG 15 (Life on Land), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), and to implementation of new goals of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
