Grant Description

Purpose and goal:

The project aims to advance the development of low-power tags for massive IoT applications in 6G networks, with a strong focus on sustainability and efficient communication. It seeks to design IoT devices with minimal hardware requirements and ultra-low power consumption, utilizing ambient backscatter technology to reduce energy use. This approach supports the growing demand for sustainable solutions in next-generation IoT ecosystems.

Expected results and effects:

The project aims to design, simulate, and fabricate a lens-based solution for efficient backscatter communication. The researcher will conduct an electromagnetic study of the lens as a passive beamforming network and its antenna array. Measurement data collected from the device could lead to the development of a new product for the IoT market.

Approach and implementation:

The project will be implemented in two phases: 1) design and simulation, and 2) fabrication and testing. The device design and simulation are conducted using full-wave simulation tools like CST and HFSS, considering advanced fabrication techniques. Once the simulation is complete, the device will be fabricated and tested in the lab to verify the simulation results.
