This project aims to enhance global decision-making on chemicals and plastic pollution by providing robust and science-based guidance to policy-makers at key international forums like the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). Despite the urgency of the pollution crisis, scientific input is currently underrepresented in these discussions.
We will leverage cutting-edge research on chemical and plastic risks to develop and communicate clear, evidence-based policy recommendations, to address this. Our communication strategy targets policy-makers, including country representatives, UN officials, and intergovernmental organizations. It uses a mix of direct engagement at UNEA/UNEP meetings, policy briefs, webinars, and bilateral meetings.
By partnering with networks like the International Panel on Chemical Pollution (IPCP) and the Scientists´ Coalition for an Effective Plastics Treaty, we will ensure that critical scientific insights are effectively shared and incorporated into global negotiations.Expected outcomes include improved global regulatory frameworks for managing chemicals and waste, reduced environmental pollution, and progress toward several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This project will strengthen the science-policy interface, promoting better-informed decisions that protect ecosystems and public health.
