Purpose and goal:
Extended reality (XR) applications will be a driving factor for the next generation of mobile systems, 6G, where a significant part of the applications will be executed as a service in the network infrastructure. In the project, we develop system support to be able to efficiently perform the execution, both on existing platforms and on specialized 6G radio platforms where unused processor capacity is utilized.
Expected results and effects:
The project develops mechanisms to compensate for latency variations by predicting the user´s movements. Furthermore, we develop support for mobility of the processing in the infrastructure in order to be able to optimally place task execution, and use resources in the best way. Finally, we implement computational infrastructure on hyperdistributed radio platforms and demonstrate execution as close to the user as possible. Overall, these features meet the XR applications´ latency requirements.
Approach and implementation:
We organize the work in a number of work packages where we have a timetable for our milestones in each package. We will continuously have physical placement of personnel in the labs at LU and Ericsson for effective and close collaboration. Furthermore, we will have ongoing project meetings within the work packages as well as overall project meetings at regular intervals. The project plan is updated and refined at these meetings.
Developed solutions are demonstrated in our laboratories.
