Purpose and goal:
The objective of the project is to develop a Head-Up Display (HUD) that enhances traffic safety in vehicle navigation by displaying information on the windshield that would typically be on the dashboard. Since this information is available in the same field of view as the surroundings, the driver does not need to shift focus. Combined with AI, a HUD can also assist the driver in distinguishing the environment in challenging visibility conditions, such as fog or snow.
Expected results and effects:
With PLT´s new bottom-up technology, pyramid-shaped microLEDs can realize the next generation of HUDs. We aim to produce smaller, brighter, and more energy-efficient microLEDs compared to those currently on the market. For Phase 1, the milestone is to develop a green microLED demonstrator, which we can send to the customer for evaluation. This will provide a deeper understanding of an initial product and should meet specifications regarding LED size, brightness, and efficiency.
Approach and implementation:
The project is conducted by PLT and is divided into three main areas: technology development, business development, and IP. The technical development work is carried out internally at PLT using equipment rented from RISE ProNano in Lund and Linköping University for the manufacturing and characterization of the microLEDs. Within business development, two new collaboration agreements are to be signed, and technical advancements will be protected through new patent applications.
