This research project investigates the complex role of digital platforms in crisis communication, exploring how they contribute in shaping and disseminating narratives of risk and crisis in an era marked by multifaceted societal challenges.
Aimed at a comprehensive understanding, the project puts particular emphasis on the socio-technical dynamics of digital platforms for the creation, distribution, and impact of risk and crisis narratives.
Employing a mixed-methods approach, the project combines large-N computational analysis with in-depth qualitative case studies, leveraging a large-scale and unique set of data sources from social media platforms and news outlets.
The conceptual framework is rooted in the sociology of risk and the study of hybrid media systems, focusing on the interplay between technological affordances and societal processes.
By investigating the socio-technical mechanisms through which digital platforms influence the perception and management of crises, the project not only fills critical gaps in academic knowledge but also contributes insights useful for the development of more effective crisis communication strategies, enhancing societal resilience in the face of complex challenges.
