Purpose and goal:
The vision is to establish an XR center with the goal of supporting innovation, evaluation, and implementation of XR technology in medical education, care, and health. A long-term collaboration with Silicon Valley would benefit Swedish academia, healthcare, industry, and the development of medical XR.
Objectives: 1) Gain insights into how to successfully build and operate a medical XR center; 2) Develop a structure for industry collaborations; 3) Identify possible collaboration projects. Expected results and effects:
By the end of step 1, at least 3 study visits to medical XR centers at universities or hospitals and at least 3 company visits are expected. Initial collaborations should be established with research groups and XR companies in SV, laying the foundation for long-term agreements and projects. This will clarify the center´s ability to attract international collaboration, create a platform for high-quality medical XR research and development, and serve as the foundation for an international network
Approach and implementation: Step 1 focuses on study visits and establishing initial collaborations with stakeholders.
In preparation for the Silicon Valley visit, the emphasis is on identifying partners, initiating contact, and planning study visits. During our stay in Silicon Valley, we will present the expertise of the Karolinska Institute and Karolinska University Hospital, as well as engage in in-depth discussions to identify potential collaboration opportunities that will hopefully result in a detailed project plan.
