Purpose and goal:
Our project aims to use intelligent assistants to promote more sustainable cooking and reduce food waste. We want to gain a deeper understanding of how people’s shopping and cooking behaviors impact food waste and evaluate how AI assistants can influence these behaviors. The goal is to assess an AI coach that supports individuals who want to cook in a more sustainable and varied way. The project will be conducted in a smart kitchen lab where user data can be collected and analyzed.
Expected results and effects:
Through user studies, we collect data on behaviors and attitudes around food waste. We identify challenges and patterns that lead to food waste and investigate how an AI-based coach can positively change these behaviors. The results show how AI can support and guide sustainable and varied cooking, especially for those with limited cooking knowledge. The project´s insights will be published scientifically and can influence both policy and product development.
Approach and implementation:
From October to December we will hold monthly meetings to discuss potential areas of investigation. In January 2025, our UX researchers will conduct contextual research in the chosen area. During February and March, we identify possible problem areas to solve. Between April and June, we develop different concepts. Finally, we present our results during the third quarter.
