Grant Description

Purpose and goal:

Aim: Test and validate a new method to correlate N2O emission (nitrous oxide) from arable land with continuous measurement of soil parameters.

Objective: Create improved opportunities to measure agricultural N2O emissions, which is a prerequisite for relevant measures to reduce the climate impact from cultivation to be implemented. Expected results and effects: 1. New method for cost-effective, reliable and accurate estimation of emission of N2O (nitrous oxide) from arable land.

2. New knowledge and data can be used to develop methods for high precision modeling of N2O emissions.

3. Further development of agricultural practices for optimization of fertilizer use and reduction of N2O emissions from arable land. Approach and implementation:

Sensors for continuous recording of soil physical parameters are installed in at least two field trials where N2O (nitrous oxide) is measured according to today´s intensive measurement schedule. Registration over four months of measurement. The data are analyzed for correlation of soil parameters and N2O emissions potential.

Modeling of potential for simplification of method for N2O measurement.
