Nuts - the everyday food of the future

Purpose and goal:

Nuts holds a huge potential - nutritionally, environmentally, culturally and economically - to contribute to a sustainable and healthy diet within the planetary boundaries. We import nuts for many millions annually, there are simply no Swedish nuts and nut products on the market.

The goal is to develop the roadmap "Nötresan", aiming to unlock the potential for nuts as building block of the future Swedish foodscape! Expected results and effects:

Expected project result is "Nötresan" - a roadmap that shows the way to nuts as the everyday food of the future. As part of this, we are establishing the knowledge network "Nötverket", compiling decision documents and a catalog of challenges, and establishing 100 nut trees around the country.

In the long term, we expect the "Nötresan" to lay the foundation for a new industry, with nuts a building block of the Swedish foodscape - for a healthy food system within the planetary boundaries. Approach and implementation: The project has 6 work packages, carried out in 3 phases: 1. Current situation analysis - cultivation systems, business models, market, preparedness and health.

2. Stakeholder mobilization - alliance building with key players for Swedish-grown nuts and behavioral change, to create a platform and later be able to reach out to decision makers, media and influencers in the food system.

3. The way forward - develop a roadmap with a basis for decision-making together with the actors, for building a fruitful and stable nut industry.
