Purpose and goal:
The purpose of this project is to design and evaluate operational procedures, concepts for Detect-And-Avoid (DAA) and interface to automation for safe integration between manned and unmanned aviation, in key situations.
The project is part of a strategic collaboration between Sweden and Brazil with the aim to develop and demonstrate concepts and technology for the safe integration of unmanned aircraft systems in non-segregated airspace, which in turn enables new operations and services. Expected results and effects:
Today´s air traffic management (ATM) and management of drones (UTM) are not sufficient. The challenges studied are expected to provide added value for both Sweden and Brazil in the development of advanced airspace mobility. The possibility of mixing civil air traffic with military missions and crisis operations makes more efficiently use of the airspace. Wider use of unmanned aircraft systems will strengthen the aerospace industry and potentially provide enhanced capabilities for the Air Force.
Approach and implementation:
We design and evaluate scenarios in an airspace together with experts in Brazil. The scenarios will be tested in the simulator and where operationally possible we intend to test fly key aspects. The tests will be evaluated with regard to operational management through different systems with varying degrees of automation, focusing on human-AI teaming, operational procedures with real practical relevance for air traffic control in the short term, human-system interface, and the solution for DAA.
