Visions in the North step 2 - Team Boden

Purpose and goal:

Our team will work to develop new solutions for Älvdalen´s abandoned houses. The solutions are based on increasing the use of the built environment through new resource sharing solutions that enable more people to live, we call it a new “sharing architecture” for rural communities. A development model that focuses on societal development from the user´s perspective.

This requires new ways of thinking when it comes to planning. A model that starts from the place and the people who will jointly live and work there. We look forward to helping people find a home in Boden! Expected results and effects:

Results: Increased knowledge about spatial and social conditions, and how sharing architecture can meet needs. Increased knowledge about the organisational capacity and real estate economic potential. Development of housing concepts for abandoned houses. Proposal for a development and management plan to implement a prototype. Make alternative planning tracks visible.

Effect: Increase the degree of utilisation of the abandoned houses and broaden the range of available forms of housing. Enable more resource-efficient homes through the existing built environment. Approach and implementation:

To quickly get to an action-oriented approach, we will dive directly into 1-3 specific sites of abandoned buildings chosen in consultation with the municipality and local civil society organisations. With specific cases as examples and arenas for learning, we will then formulate a proposal and how a scale-up could be staged. The work is divided into Part 1: Inventory & Analysis, June-August with work on-site in June. Part 2: Development and Management plan August -November, with work on-site in September.
