What role can the rural social meeting places play in a socially and ecologically sustainable future?
That question plays a key role in this project, which addresses the question of how the participation of civil society in interaction with the municipality can contribute to the sustainability of places.
We would like to argue that social meeting places have the potential to form a hub for sustainable rural development, both socially and ecologically. In the project, a dialogue will be held with the civil society concerning the meaning and function of the meeting places, and with the villagers about the need for social meeting places and social involvement.
The project´s goal is that both the village associations´ and the municipalities´ knowledge of their respective roles in the transition to sustainability should increase:of which factors come into play to enable conversion to a more sustainable countryside, with sustainable meeting places equipped for the future.
A concrete result will be a model for how rural meeting places can be developed. The model will be tested in two pilot studies.
The model and our two example villages will be able to inspire and be used by other meeting places and associations, all over the country.
