The project proposal FRAMÅT: The future transport system of Åmål – sustainable and legitimate, intend to test a method by involving citizens in a dialogue process in which they are given the opportunity to explore a desirable sustainable future and create a policy package that can achieve that future.
Social justice and legitimacy are central concepts to the project and the purpose is to understand if acceptance for a sustainability transformation can be achieved by involving and giving responsibility to citizens. The project group will invite transport poor citizens in Åmål to two workshops. In the first workshop the participants will explore two future scenarios.
One scenario is based on hypermobility and car-based travel while the other scenario is based on transport efficiency.
The participants will explore the scenarios through personas to understand different social needs and discuss, from different aspects, the consequences of the scenarios.
In the other workshop, the participants will create a policy package, they will need to find agreement and combine different policy measures into one package that will strive towards a desirable sustainable future. The results of the project will give us insight into how a sustainability transformation can be realized together with the citizens.
The method luminates different social needs and opens for discussion about where measures should be taken, which groups that risks being disadvantaged, and creates acceptance for change.
