The project aims to develop a way of working where municipalities, regional and state authorities, commercial fishing, agriculture and forestry, research and civil society meet and together identify solutions for climate neutrality and deal with the challenges climate change brings within all three dimensions of sustainability locally in the landscapes around Lake Hjälmaren .With climate change, Hjälmaren is facing major and complex challenges that lead to, among other things, collapsing ecosystems, deteriorating conditions for food and drinking water supply, reduced attractiveness and deteriorating conditions for moving in, establishment and well-being for residents in the rural areas of the Hjälmar landscape.
The climate changes thus not only have ecological consequences, but will greatly affect the conditions for a socially sustainable life in the landscapes around the lake. The project will, in an actor-driven way, research how the conditions for social sustainability are affected and, together with the actors involved, develop a way of working to manage the changed conditions.
The project is inherently inclusive in order to create legitimacy for the way of working and the transition to a sustainable society in the Hjälmar landscape. The developed working method can be scaled up and spread to other municipalities/regions as it will show how sustainability can be achieved across administrative, sector and geographical boundaries.
