In response to the urgent global climate crisis and the growing imperative for municipalities to address households’ consumption-based emissions, the Stockholm Environment Institute spearheads a project aimed at crafting a tool tailored to municipalities´ needs in comprehending the intricate links between households’ climate footprints and climate justice.
This initiative seeks to bolster capacity and foster knowledge exchange among Swedish municipalities in navigating the nexus of climate impacts and equity at the grassroots level.
In a co-creative process with 4 partner municipalities, the project will culminate in the development of a novel tool for understanding the relation between households’ climate footprint and a set of socio-demographic variables.
The work will involve both quantitative and qualitative methodologies to delve into the intersection of climate footprints and socio-demographic variables.
By distilling and incorporating socio-economic metrics, the project will address households’ footprint with granularity, empowering municipalities to tailor policy interventions to mitigate climate impacts and societal inequalities.
Through this endeavor, municipalities will be equipped to enact more precise and impactful policy measures, laying the groundwork for a repository of effective local interventions targeting consumption and inequality. Ultimately, this effort will move Sweden closer to fulfilling both its short-term and long-term climate objectives.
