Grant Description

Purpose and goal:

The project aims to reduce the environmental impact of the packaging industry. The focus is on identifying and utilizing suitable waste materials to create fiber-based packaging, enabling a fully circular production process. Additionally, MRI and NMR will be used to study liquid transport mechanisms in fiber-based structures.

By evaluating the environmental impact of the packaging through life cycle assessments and improving recyclability, the project aims to optimize production for industrial scale. Expected results and effects:

The project´s expected outcome is innovative 3D fiber-based packaging using recycled waste, providing a sustainable alternative to traditional materials. It aims to implement efficient waste processing and circular economy practices throughout the packaging lifecycle. This initiative anticipates integrating sustainable packaging into the market through industry collaboration and consumer education, ensuring economic viability, with rigorous testing confirming high quality and performance standards.

Approach and implementation: The project is divided into five work packages, which mainly run in parallel and involve all project partners. WP1: Material development WP2: Closing the loop WP3: Gain fundamental understanding of liquid transport-fiber structure relationship WP4: Sustainability and project exploitation

WP5: Project management and communication
