There is a clear and urgent need to change our consumption patterns in Sweden, and food consumption is no exception. To keep in line with the Paris agreement, we must transition toward a sustainable and healthy diet.
The Nordic Nutrition Recommendations (NNR) 2023 offers integrated guidelines on how a sustainable and healthy diet can look. However, given its novelty, little is known about the direct impacts of this diet.
Therefore, the overarching aim of this project is to directly evaluate NNR 2023, and to use it as a frame to explore the potential of key policy actions that could support population-wide transition to sustainable food consumption patterns.
We will address the impacts of the NNR 2023 diet across health, environment, and socio-economic perspectives using individual-level dietary data collected from two longitudinal cohorts in Sweden – the Cohort of Swedish Men (COSM) and Swedish Mammography Cohort (SMC) – which comprises a representative sample of ≈100,000 individuals.
We will then practically investigate new and easy-to-understand food labelling models that can be implemented to support this urgently needed dietary transition.
Our interdisciplinary collaborative team of highly competent international researchers carries decades of expertise in assessing dietary impact, and in identifying multiple concrete opportunities for novel public health interventions. The purpose of the funding we seek is to support a Post Doctoral Researcher within our team.
