Purpose and goal:
This project aims to leverage Sweden´s welfare infrastructure, and repricing mechanisms to drive widespread dietary shifts and societal resilience. It aims to test the Universal Basic Nutrient Income model to promote equitable access to sustainable foods while preparing for future uncertainties. It emphasizes civic incentives and multi-actor coordination to strengthen our food sovereignty and resilience.
Expected results and effects:
The outcome of this project will catalyze a nuanced discourse on the true cost of food, employing true cost accounting to inform institutional design and policy-making for the Universal Basic Nutrient Income. By exploring repricing mechanisms, it seeks to understand their impact on consumer behavior. Additionally, the project will increase knowledge through local-level food environment mapping, assessing accessibility, affordability, resilience, and potential for sustainable consumption.
Approach and implementation:
The project aims to engage in consecutive work packages. Develop a database with sustainable, healthy foods according to current nutritional recommendation, and adaptable to multiple future scenarios - a base for adaptable taxation and subsidy scheme. Ground the recommendations in Malmo via food environment mapping with local actors. Develop an institutional and policy design for the UBNI mechanism based on true cost accounting. Test the concept via live demonstration to inform policy design.
