‘Is it acceptable for a ‘site of learning’ to be so ignorant?’ asked Sami scholar Rauna Kuokkanen in a book chapter on the erasure of Indigenous Epistemes in academia. Kuokkanen’s question clearly articulates a knowledge gap in both research and education.
This collaborative project investigates the potential of the Nordic history education to respond to this question by decolonising its curriculum.
While researchers and educationalists in the Nordic countries have recently started to recognize a growing interest in decolonising research and education, new approaches have yet to be internalised in the professional self-understanding. This knowledge gap also adheres to the structure of the general educational curriculum.
Addressing this gap, the project will explore both innovative research areas and creative research ideas that the educational sciences can bring to the table.
Bringing together an interdisciplinary group of researchers, the project aims to formulate a unique set of perspectives in order to examine the challenges and opportunities history education offers in terms of epistemic and cognitive justice in post-colonial Norden.
