We apply for Dr Mathieu Albert, Institute for Education Research at the University Health Network in Toronto, and Research Adjunct Professor, Michener Institute of Education, Toronto, Canada to become visiting researcher during January-December 2024 at the department of Education, Stockholm University.
Dr Albert’s expertise is in educational sociology – particularly cultural theory, and particularly within health professions education.
He will during the period be involved in one large research project, assist in supervision and teaching at the VR funded research school in health professions education, which is starting in September 2023 at the department, and the development of the research group Higher Education Learning and Practices.
The research programme involves the examination of how the idea of interdisciplinarity has been implemented in higher education, engineering education and medical education and how social scientists navigate their career and created knowledge within these settings.
Collaborating across disciplinary boundaries, despite its widely touted potential benefits, can come with a cost for researchers themselves and for the broader landscape of knowledge production.
Our goal is to comparatively explore how researchers trained outside these three education subfields integrate and engage in cross-disciplinary knowledge exchanges with colleagues already located within these subfields and the consequences for their research focus and practices.
