Neil Selwyn is a distinguished professor at the Faculty of Education, Monash University, Australia. He is internationally recognised as a leading critical researcher within the field of digital education.
The Department of Educational Sciences, Lund University, applies for a visiting researcher grant for funding Selwyn’s visit at the department during a 6-month period between January and July 2025.
Selwyn’s research, and the research programme which he will conduct during his stay, will contribute greatly to the department’s ongoing research within the field of sociology of education, particularly its projects on digitalization of education, marketization and privatization of education, and teachers’ practice and competence, research which spans over both secondary and tertiary education.
It will also strengthen collaboration between researchers within the field of digitalization of education at the national level and provide opportunities for international collaboration.
During his stay, Selwyn plans to conduct a comparative study in which he will investigate teacher capabilities to respond to, and engage with, artificial intelligence and other automated decision-making tools in their classrooms.
Researchers from the host department will be engaged in the project and also contribute with empirical data from the higher education sector.
