Creative cooperation on site

With the "Creative cooperatin on site" project, we want to create better working methods and have a fixed plan for how we plan thecity and the city´s future construction.

We need to find common ways of working that benefit both those who want to build and the cityitself, so that the city gets a better overview and can thus be more active and predict what needs to be done.

In this work, we willinvolve all actors internally within the city of Västerås who work with community planning, and also benchmark with other actors in thecountry, for example the 7-city mex of which we are a part. 7-stadsmex is a network of seven municipalities in Central Sweden, Gävle, Uppsala, Västerås, Örebro, Eskilstuna, Norrköping and Linköping.We will work with a solution-oriented focus with digital development and increased digitization in the project.

The idea is to developthe process itself with support in the digital tool ProjetCompanion PC.

When PC came into use in 2022, the introduction was focused onthe second stages of the civil engineering process, but early stages were not included, as it was considered difficult to put into theproject tool´s execution at the time.

Now PC has been developed at the same time as the entire organization is working focused ondeveloping the community building process, which means that the time is ripe to also work into the early stages of the common process.

Today, the city´s internal actors work with early stages in and own processes largely manually, with one-note as the heart of the workwith various linked documents. It is not possible to see who worked on a part in the process, when this happened and what was added orremoved.

We know that it is possible to simplify and digitize the process, and everyone involved in the city has access and authorizationto all parts, so it will be easy to do the right thing.A development of our digital tool is something we are happy to share with other municipalities.

This is not a unique situation forVästerås, but we will make sure that what we come up with is shared with others.We will also invite the building operators who are active in Västerås and the surrounding areas in order to get their input on how theywant the ideas to be handled at an early stage in the planning and construction process.

In previously conducted interviews and surveys, the city has received criticism for ideas being lost, ideas being taken care of in different ways depending on who you have contact with, and there are requests for a common path into the entire community building process, with a focus on the early stages.We connect to the effect logic found within the Smart built environment, where we create a more efficient process that means ashorter processing time, which both benefits the city of Västerås internally, and the construction operator.

When an idea is properlyinvestigated already at an early stage, it is already clear early on whether the idea is worth proceeding with or not.

In that we are using the tool the city has jointly introduced for the community building process, we are hooking into an already existing tool.

If thereis a need for development, it can be applied to everyone who uses the tool, which will benefit the entire city´s social development process. We strongly believe in digitization as a tool that will make it easier for the city to do good work. Digital tools are effectiveenablers that ensure that everything we do happens in accordance with decided processes.

With this tool, we have a unique opportunity toconstantly learn from each other.The main positive effect in the long term is a clear and transparent way of working that is made possible through effective digitization. Digitization is not technology and tools, but how we work efficiently in clear and transparent processes.
