adaptation measures in an existing densely built-up environment.
Creating increased crown coverage, more greenery, permeable soil beds and the possibility of water bodies in cities may require measures in the physical environment on several properties with different owners.
Today there are obstacles to cooperation, i.a. there is a lack of good tools to allocate responsibility and costs for measures that provide joint benefits for different actors over time. The project examines a new collaboration model for climate adaptation measures in the form of ´climate adaptation contracts´.
Questions are: What local rules and agreements are possible on climate adaptation measures for the built environment in a site-specific context? What conditions are required for measures to last over time? Is there a need for changed policies beyond the control of the local actors?
The project is carried out in the form of a policy lab where the city of Malmö participates together with property owners, collaborative organisations, policy researchers and experts on nature-based adaptation measures. The project goal is to design site-specific climate adaptation contracts to ensure that important measures are actually implemented and contribute to climate adaptation of the city.
A practical guide and a training in web format is distributed to other cities, as well as a policy brief for decision makers.
