Upscaling of the production technology of Ligna’s S-Power component for energy storage

Purpose and goal:

By replacing traditional fossil-based batteries, Ligna´s energy storage offers ground-breaking benefits for the IoT industry, the environment, the climate and society. Today, the manufacturing technology is at TRL6. The process has been validated in a laboratory environment, but still contains several manual steps that lack automation.

The goal of the project is to scale up and further develop the manufacturing process for Ligna´s energy storage.

The project aims to develop and validate a full-scale industrial production line for a continuous production flow (TRL8). Expected results and effects:

The growth of the IoT market is based on the use of billions of sensors. These devices require energy. This requires more batteries, which results in a significant negative environmental footprint. There is a significant business opportunity in providing the IoT industry with sustainable, thin and greener technology options.

Ligna has developed unique energy storages that can transform the upstream value chain as most of the raw materials needed for their production come from renewable resources. This technology can drive the sustainability transformation of the IoT industry. Approach and implementation:

The project will be carried out by Ligna Energy in collaboration with Ynvisible Production. The partners have complementary positions in the value chain. By working together and engaging other industry stakeholders, the consortium will deliver products that offer strong benefits across the entire product life cycle: from production, through use to final consumption.
