Wireless Infrastructure TEchnology at CHalmers (WiTECH)

Purpose and goal:

The WiTECH Centre will establish a dedicated academia-industry collaborative platform to strengthen Swedish competitiveness in the wireless sector. We will leverage the centre’s multidisciplinarity, world-class scientific/education/testing infrastructures, unique coordination experience, strong presence of

SMEs, and technical leadership in the European 6G and semiconductor agenda to create an internationally attractive and competitive research and training program. Expected results and effects:

1) Digital signal processing techniques for future convergence of wireless infrastructure services and global service coverage to enable efficient resource sharing and bridging the digital divide; 2) Agile, sustainable, and energy-efficient wireless hardware solutions, enabling utilization of data and reducing environmental impact; 3) Reliable semiconductor component design processes and autonomous test methods for trustworthy system designs and increased production efficiency; 4) Unified eco-system for global alignment of enabling technologies and collaboration.

Approach and implementation:

Our strategy relies on 1) Strong engagement and diversity of industrial partners, ranging from SMEs to LEs in different parts of the value chain and business sectors, 2) Development of a high-risk-early-stage research program driven by societal needs and conducted via active collaboration, thereby leading to scientific advancement and innovations, 3) Development of a high-quality training program for future generations of engineers in multi-disciplinary wireless technologies and social awareness, thereby providing much-needed intellectual capital to industry and society.
