We hereby nominate professor Dag Michalsen as the Olof Palme visiting professor 2025. He presently holds a chair in legal history at Oslo University. He is nominated for 8 months (January - August). Michalsen is an internationally renowned, very influential and prolific scholar and an experienced academic leader.
He will be hosted by the Uppsala Law Faculty, offering him a highly qualified inter-disciplinary environment for working on his research project Nordic Constitutional History, experience of crisis and the interwar years, developing a historically informed reflection on tensions between the regular/irregular functioning of a constitutional state based on comparative constitutional history research.
Interdisciplinary connections will benefit from this broadened understanding of the constitutional orders in the Nordic countries.
During his stay he will also collaborate closely with leading researchers concerned with crisis and democracy at the Faculty of Law in Lund, the Department of Political Science in Uppsala and the Swedish Defence Academy around themes concerning state of normality - state of exception, rule of law and democratic self-defence.
The aim is to link these environments together, creating long-lasting collaborations including preparing for a doctoral program grant: Constitutions in times of crisis, past and present.
Michalsen´s stay will be a great contribution to and inspiration to the legal history and constitutional law communities in Sweden.
