The purpose and aim of the workshop is to, based on previous research and various relevant theories, increase our knowledge base of the meaning of knowing subject content and develop methods for studying and analyzing knowing in different subject areas.
This is done in comparison between different subjects where similarities and differences regarding the special nature of knowing involved in different subjects are identified. The workshop includes a comparative subject didactic seminar series, where researchers from several higher education institutions, representing different school subjects are invited.
A Teachers´ residence will also be organized where analyzes, previously carried out in an ongoing research project are validated and critically examined.
The seminar series lasts for one year while the two-days residence is conducted on a single occasion. The workshop´s theme "studies of knowing" opens for comparisons between different school subjects and their respective subject content.
It will be an important contribution to educational science research as studies of knowing is still a new and emerging research area.
The significance can be described in terms of method development in relation to different theories as well as a deeper understanding of what it means to know the content in a subject. By comparing different subjects, new aspects of one´s own can emerge. In this way, knowledge about the knowing within the various subjects will be developed.
