The cross-disciplinary field of Science and Technology Studies (STS) engages in the study of knowledge in all its forms – how it is generated, stabilised, contested, and translated (Jasanoff, 2004).
Surprisingly, although the field of education research has long played host to an eclectic range of theoretical and conceptual approaches, STS has been a late entrant into this field.
However, more and more strands within the research field draw on insights, perspectives, and methods from STS, leading to fine-grained analyses of the processes and practices of education.
STS provides exciting and generative forms of contemporary critical research, with its rich array of concepts and analytical methods well suited to investigating issues in knowledge practices and epistemic cultures, education policies and practices, and teaching and learning.
Against this background, the purpose of this network is to develop STS research projects in educational sciences and create forums for and promote collaborations between STS researchers in education.
Five different forms of activities are planned for the next three years: monthly digital STudieS-seminars as well as extended digital seminars with invited speakers, international workshops in connection to international conferences, international research visits, the development of a digital platform, and a summer school for doctoral students.
