Purpose and goal:
Digital Cellulose Center has the vision to "make cellulose-based products an integral part of a sustainable, digital society". The long-term goals of DCC (2027, 10-years from inception) are: 1. Generate knowledge and competence, highly relevant to the industry in our field digital cellulose 2. Create an internationally reputable research environment
3. Establish international networks and extensive collaborations 4. Attract external funding from e.g. EU, National Program Office for a self-financed centre Expected results and effects:
The term "Digital Cellulose" represents an emerging class of materials that are made of woodbased lignocellulose materials that can be converted to or combined with electrically active materials. These materials have the potential to make several breakthroughs, driven by needs for greener electronics and to expand the market for wood-based materials.
Sweden has with DCC a unique possibility to take a leading role in the development of green and sustainable electronics. This is further strengthened by the existing international ties through DCC´s partners global business. Approach and implementation:
The structure of the six major research projects within DCC is maintained from phase 1. We will strengthen the fundamentals by becoming even stronger in lignocellulosic chemistry and green printed electronics. To this we will increase the TRL range by bringing in more of the demonstrator and scalability projects.
We will focus on value chains for energy storage, medical and health technology and Internet-of-Cellulose-Things. It is expected to give further push and power to the industrial commitment, research issues and requirements, as well as recycling and sustainability issues.
