To strengthen competence and knowledge development for a sustainable society, the Research school Just Transitions takes its starting point in concrete dilemmas and conflicts between different goals and values in urban planning and governance to combat climate change, with a special focus on management strategies, organizational preconditions and leadership in urban and regional environments.
The objective is to build knowledge and competence based on ways of thinking where dilemmas and conflicts are seen as productive drivers rather than hindrances for change.
A key challenge is to develop transition practices that combine climate adaptation and mitigation with a comprehensive perspective on social justice and equality. This challenge constitutes the Research school’s substantive framing.
Based in concrete urban practice, interdisciplinary knowledge integration, and method training for transdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge production, the Research school aims to define and develop the necessary knowledge and skills for management and governance of transitions to climate just urban and regional environments.
The vision is to create a progressive knowledge-building and evolving learning environment for all knowledge-bearing actors within the Research school, not just for doctoral students.
The Research school will create a system for knowledge about societal transformation where competence is built and shared with different actors and organizations.
