Water challenges in sustainable planning and the built environment (WATCH) is a multi- and transdisciplinary research school for 7 PhD students in Ecotoxicology, Environmental analytical chemistry, Human geography, Risk and Environmental studies, Political science and Sociology.
It is coordinated by Örebro university and Karlstad university in collaboration with the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), Swedish Water, the County Administrative Boards of Värmland and Örebro and the municipalities Karlstad and Örebro.
WATCH departures in interventions for sustainable planning and built environment aiming towards sustainability but that also generates complex water challenges such as risks of flooding and the spread of toxins in water.
WATCH is an arena for research, collaboration and dialogue with actors influenced by and with mandate for sustainable planning and built environment and water management. WATCH will produce new transformative knowledge and methods for practice. The research concerns both conflicts and synergies in sustainable planning and built environment and water management.
WATCH is a supportive and creative milieu for the professional development of the PhD students and complements the disciplinary PhD education.
Courses, seminars and similar activities primarily focus on the topic of sustainable planning and built environment and sustainable water management, and on development of academic and popular science writing and research communication
