Purpose and goal:
GreenIron has developed a revolutionary, hydrogen-based process for reducing ores and metal oxides. The process is completely CO2 free, the only emissions are water and pure iron pellets. The Laws of Nature regarding pressure differences, temperature and mass are the main process drivers.
The objectives of the project are to (1) validate the industrial scalability of the method by creating a large-scale demonstration unit, (2) to expand the understanding of the process at an industrial scale, and (3) to validate the capabilities of the technology to recycle complex waste streams. Expected results and effects:
The project partners join forces to advance the technology from the current TRL-6 to TRL-8 during the project. The demonstrator created in the project will serve as a model for replicating the technology in relevant industrial facilities in Sweden and internationally. The ambition is to provide the world´s metal, mining and manufacturing industries with a scalable, energy efficient and circular solution for recycling of metals to the highest qualities. All this while emitting net zero CO2.
Approach and implementation:
The project is organized into five work packages that will allow the consortium partners to build the demonstrator unit, validate the scalability of GreenIron’s technology and optimise the reduction process in industrial scale. The demonstration phase of the project includes several pilot runs with different types of input materials. The knowledge base generated in the project will form the stepping stone for the increased competitiveness of the industry waste recycling value chain in Sweden.
