Purpose and goal:
The project aimed to increase understanding of how standardization can be used to accelerate and increase the use of electric cars as a resource for flexibility services to the electricity grid. Together with the project partners CTEK AB and Axess Logistics AB, RISE has explored the possibilities for long-term parked electric cars to deliver frequency regulation services, among other things by studying SvK´s eligibility requirements and comparing with eligibility requirements in standards for electric car charging. The project has delivered on set objectives.
Expected results and effects:
Potential for long-term parked electric cars to be used for the delivery of frequency regulation services is being investigated. Exemplary user cycles are produced along with estimates of earnings based on historical data. Svenska kraftnät´s established requirements (measurement accuracy, response time, etc.) to deliver frequency regulation are compared with requirements described in ISO15118 for Vehicle2Grid and changes to the eligibility requirements to enable more frequency regulation are discussed. Cybersecurity is discussed.
Approach and implementation:
The project consisted of several parts: 1) A strategic analysis regarding the sale of electric cars and possible support of Vehicle2Grid. 2) A compilation of eligibility requirements on frequency regulation and production of exemplary user cycles. 3) A review of ISO15118 to increase the understanding of the extent to which the eligibility requirements for electric cars and charging infrastructure that meet the standard can also be said to meet eligibility requirements for frequency regulation. 4) Eligibility requirements and standards linked to cyber security were discussed.
