Grant Description

Professor Orford’s appointment as Olof Palme Visiting Professorship would benefit Swedish research on three significant and related issues: (1) the threats and challenges posed by climate change to international peace and security, (2) the broad implications of framing and responding to climate change as a security issue (rather than, for example, as an issue of economics, energy policy, justice, decolonisation, or human rights), and (3) the role that international law can play in promoting peaceful and just responses to climate change.Professor Orford would be co-hosted by the Faculty of Law at Stockholm University, and the Department of Law at the University of Gothenburg, where her engagement would build on existing research collaborations with teams led by Professor Pål Wrange and Professor Gregor Noll.

She would also plan to present lectures and lead research seminars at the Faculty of Law, Lund University and the Faculty of Law, Uppsala University, building on existing collaborations with scholars in both faculties (Markus Gunneflo at Lund, Inger Österdahl at Uppsala).
