Building on our previous research, we will combine our competences within natural and human geography, agricultural systems, ecology, sociology and rural development to analyse the landscape, production and livelihoods in selected pilot communes in two provinces of Thua Thien Hue and Ha Tinh.
We will identify the factors influencing climate resilience in a participatory process with farmers and relevant stakeholders.
This will provide the basis for drawing preliminary generic conclusions, as a basis for our continued research applications.
Through emphasis on interdisciplinary research across the natural science/social science divide, we aim to achieve a clearer understanding of the institutional possibilities and constraints influencing the extent to which farmers, communities, local governments and policy makers can include integrated land use in their efforts towards adapting and mitigating climate risk.
Our long-term aim is that our research network can contribute methods development for interdisciplinary research, and lift individual case studies across the region to comparative analysis and drawing of more generic conclusions, also relevant for policy makers.
Through conferences and interaction with other researchers in the region, we aim to stimulate a broader research exchange that can make a clear impact in bridging the sectoral and disciplinary divides, to achieve more climate-resilient landscapes in Southeast Asia.
